South Cotswolds

Market Place Cirencester

With a short flat route south of Cirencester and hillier longer loops north into the Cotswolds hills there is lots of variety here.  Two hilly off-road routes going north.  All routes start from the memorial in Market Place Cirencester.  Plenty of historic places to visit and walks in the Abbey Gardens and Home Park.  Parking in the Forum car park is free on Sundays.  Preview the views and terrain in this GCN video.  No bike shops open on Sundays!

Routes

Anti-clockwise.  Starts off with hills out to Stroud then flat before finishing in the hills near Chedworth.  Cafes at Woodruffs in Stroud at 20 miles, Felt Cafe in Brimscombe 23 miles, Ragged Cot in Minchampton at 25 miles, Carles Cafe (and bike shop) at South Cerney at 40 miles or the Twig in Bibury at 52 miles.
Anti-Clockwise. Starts with some sharp hills, flat middle section before final hills near Chedworth. Cafes at Boho Bakery Chalford 13 miles, Ragged Cot Minchampton at 14 miles, Carles Cafe (and bike shop) at South Cerney at 29 miles, or the Twig in Bibury at 41 miles.
Anti-clockwise.   Avoiding the early hills from the Long route, includes all the cute villages.  Cafes at  Carles Cafe (and bike shop) at South Cerney at 22 miles, or the Twig in Bibury at 34 miles.

Anti-clockwise.  Avoiding all the hills this route is perfect to combine with a bit of sight seeing! Cafes at  Carles Cafe (and bike shop) at South Cerney at 23 miles

Anti-clockwise.  Shorter but still challenging.   Adapted from https://www.escapism.bike/rides/cirencester-gravel (great photos!).  Cafe at Cockleford Shop at 15 miles or Kilkenny Inn at 20miles or Bathurst Arms, North Cerney at 31 miles.  Multiple bail out options especially the last section following the River Churn rather than the A435.
